Learning to drive

Want to learn to drive? Follow these steps and make a start now.

• Check that you're allowed to drive.
• Apply for your provisional licence.
• Start your lessons, give me a call or send me a message!!
• Practice for your theory test using the Highway Code,  Know your traffic signs and Driving - the essential skills. (Other books and multiple apps are also available to help prepare for the theory test)
  You can book and take your theory test as soon as you have received your provisional licence (but not before your 17th birthday).
  You have 2 years from passing your theory to then pass your practical test or your theory would need to be retaken.
• When we both feel you are close to driving at the standard required for your test we will discuss booking your practical test. The aim is to book shortly before you are ready as the waiting times will allow you to complete your final practice.
  There are 5 parts to the driving test which normally lasts for about 40 minutes. You will have to read a number plate to confirm your eyesight and you will be asked 1 show me and 1 tell me question. The test checks your general driving ability and will include a reversing exercise and some independent driving
• Take and hopefully pass your test so you can enjoy the freedom and independence a driving licence can give. 

Official DVSA statistics say that the average person has about 45 hours of lessons with a driving instructor along with another 20 hours of private practice. Of course everyone learns differently and I aim to help you reach the required standard to pass your test and be a safe driver at a pace that is right for you.
